Induction for New Employees
Welcome!
As a new employee you have much to learn and become familiar with to enable you to settle into University life. Your induction is the starting point in this process.
There are two parts to your induction:
- Work unit specific program arranged by your supervisor; and
- Corporate SCU induction.
1. Work Unit Specific Program
As part of your work unit specific induction program, you will be meeting with your Supervisor or Manager on your first day. They will arrange for you to meet your team and undertake an orientation of your work space and building.
As part of this orientation you will be informed about your work unit's specific workplace health and safety issues. This will include understanding the emergency evacuation procedures and receiving information about your emergency evacuation wardens, safety support officer and the first aid officer. A Work Unit WHS Induction Checklist will be used for this process. Both you and the person performing your induction are required to sign the completed checklist.
An Induction Checklist Template will be tailored to your appointment and will also guide your induction and orientation during your first few weeks. You will have a proactive role in this process.
2. Corporate SCU Induction
Your corporate induction is completed in the following stages (casual employees are required to complete Modules 1, 2 and 3) :
- On your first day – Modules 1 and 2 (approx 1.5 hours)
- During your first week – Module 3 (approx 1.5 hours & 2.5 hours for supervisors)
- During your first three months – Module 4 (approx 0.5 hours)
Assess the Corporate SCU Induction using the link at the bottom of this webpage and the login details provided in your letter of offer/contract.
After you commence and have been given access to the University's systems, you will also be able to access the Corporate SCU Induction from the SCU intranet.
After completing your induction, hopefully many of the questions you had about working at SCU will be answered. As you settle into your new role, I encourage you to be an active participant in your induction - investigate, ask questions, introduce yourself to other employees, explore your new environment and ask for help if needed.
Enjoy your time at SCU.
