Management Development

Strong leaders raise the capability of their staff by continuously developing both themselves and others. They also provide the impetus for creating a culture where learning is valued and where knowledge is actively managed.

True leaders are masters in giving and receiving feedback and helping others to improve through coaching and mentoring.

SCU has implemented a dedicated management development program in recognition of the importance of these roles to the success of the university as a whole. The program has the following components:

  • Team Leader Workshop
  • Next Generation of SCU Leaders
  • Heads of Schools Development Strategy
  • Academic Leadership Program
  • Managing Performance Conversations
  • Additionally there are a range of academic programs available to staff wishing to enhance their management skills.

Other management development topics for which courses could be made available include:

  • Creating High Performing Teams
  • Coaching for Managers
  • Finance Essentials
  • Cross Cultural Communication
  • Essential Employee Relations
  • Business Planning
  • There may be other management development topics you are interested in. Please contact Organisation Development to discuss your training needs.

Professional management development programs are offered by a range of external providers. The following links provide a choice of programs, however this list is not exhaustive and staff should consider their own professional networks when sourcing opportunities.

    Association for Tertiary Education Management

    Australian Institute of Management

    Institute of Public Administration
