Indigenous Employment

Southern Cross University embraces the cultural diversity that exists within Australia. This is reflected by our commitment to supporting the advancement of Indigenous Staff and continuing to create quality work opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Indigenous Employment Strategy

SCU has developed an Indigenous Employment Strategy to assist in achieving a workforce reflective of the Australian population. The University is currently implementing a number of Indigenous Employment initiatives, based on the five objectives of the strategy:

  1. Recruitment procedures that ensure selection processes are culturally sensitive and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation across all levels of employment;
  2. Retention strategies that encourage a supportive and culturally friendly workplace for Indigenous staff;
  3. Career Development activities that directly involve and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in achieving their career aspirations;
  4. Development of Non-Indigenous Staff Capabilities to work sensitively and more effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff;
  5. Strengthening Community Relationships and Partnerships, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to create employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

Each of the five objectives of the Indigenous Employment Strategy contains a list of initiatives for implementation and all employees are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the strategy.
