The Centre for Coastal Biogeochemistry Research is a major contributor to SCU's 0402 Geochemistry area, which received the top ERA rating of 5.0 (outstanding performance well above world standard).

Mission
- to undertake high quality and innovative research that contributes to the understanding of coastal biogeochemical cycles and associated improved management of coastal waterways impacted by global change (e.g. changes in the nitrogen cycle, climate changes, ocean acidification, land use changes)
- to provide undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing professional education that will equip students and working professionals to understand and manage biogeochemical cycles and global change
- to provide consultancy services to government and non-government agencies involved in the management of biogeochemical cycles and global change
- to promote awareness within the community and amongst professionals the importance of biogeochemical research for understanding global change through scientific and non-scientific publications, through public, local, national and international conference presentations, short courses and workshops
