Sampling by the copyright collection societies
Every five years or so, areas of the University will be selected to be sampled by the Collection Societies (CAL or Screenrights) according to the provisions of our educational (statutory) licences.
What this means is that you will be required to keep records of all copying and communication activities for a period of two-three months. The societies use this data to distribute licence fees to copyright owners.
Administrative areas and academic areas may be chosen for sampling. The process is co-ordinated through the Copyright Office.
