The Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management with Honours is an independent year of study offered to students who demonstrate meritorious performance in their undergraduate studies.
The Honours degree is valued highly within the Australian university system. Honours have a long history in this country, stemming from various models of the British Honours programs of the late 19th century. The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management honours course is an innovative and practical model in which the Honours student becomes a “research apprentice”. It offers students the necessary research tools to learn the trade of rigorous scholarly enquiry and build a bridge to further higher research degree studies.
The Honours course is designed to develop a student’s research skills in an area of tourism or hospitality management in which they have an interest. The course provides students with a solid foundation for undertaking postgraduate study (Masters or PhD), as well as essential skills for careers involving research, policy or public/private consultancy work. Undertaking Honours builds high level skills for managing a project and developing independent research skills.
To qualify for the Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management with Honours a total of 96 credit points (equivalent to 8 units) must be completed.
Full-time and part-time Honours students commence in February. Full-time students complete their study on the first Monday of November of the same year with the submission of a thesis. Part-time students submit their thesis on the first Monday of November in the second year of their study.

The Honours course is available to international students who wish to study at either our Lismore, Coffs Harbour, or Gold Coast campuses or at The Hotel School Sydney. (Please note: to study at The Hotel School Sydney, students must still enrol at either Coffs Harbour, Lismore or Gold Coast).

Rules concerning Bachelors Degrees with Honours (where Honours is taken as a separate year) can be found under Rule 5 in the University’s Rules Relating to Awards.
The course will comprise research leading to the completion of a thesis based upon original work. The thesis will have a workload requirement equivalent to eight (8) units;
* Double-weighted unit.
Students are required to pass MNG40033 - Advanced Research Seminar in Tourism, Hospitality and Events to satisfactorily progress through the remainder of the Honours course. The result of this unit will count as 25% of the total Honours grade, and the written thesis will count towards the remaining 75%.
