This course offers intermediate awards (early exit points) at Diploma (8 units) and Associate Degree (16 units) levels.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, online discussion forums, work experience, field trips, guest speakers and industry engagement.

Learning Resources

Students of The Hotel School Sydney have electronic access to the SCU Library and are entitled to reciprocal borrowing rights with most Sydney universities. The SCU Library has an extensive tourism and hospitality collection, print and electronic resources to support students in their study and assessment tasks.

The web-based program Blackboard Collaborate delivers advanced on-line learning environments for students and lecturers to communicate and collaborate through virtual meeting spaces and classrooms. They can share files, presentations, and applications. If the session is recorded, students can view it afterwards.

The SCU library provides a wide range of services including librarian assistance, print and electronic resources, a document delivery service, catalogues, databases, ebooks, ereadings, and full-text journal literature.

The Academic Skills Development team supports student learning by offering online and on-campus academic skills workshops, email, phone, and one-on-one support.

Assessment Methods

Students are assessed in each unit on the basis of written and/or oral assignments. These may be researched essays and reports, presentations, case studies or problem solutions. Students may also be asked to participate in group work as well as individual assignments.

Equipment and Facilities

The Hotel School Sydney provides students with well-equipped teaching spaces. Modern audiovisual equipment is standard in all teaching venues, and students have access to computer labs for individual study purposes, as well as wireless internet, printing and photocopying.

4.1 Requirements for an Award
  1. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete not less than twenty four (24) units comprising:
    1. all units listed in Part A of the Schedule; and
    2. three (3) units from Part B of the Schedule; or
    3. three (3) other units acceptable to the Course coordinator.
  2. To be eligible for the award of the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete not less than sixteen (16) units from Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules.
  3. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete not less than eight (8) units from Part A of the Schedule attached to these Rules.
4.2 Advanced Standing
  1. Candidates, who have successfully completed the requirements of the Diploma in Hotel Management at this University, or equivalent, may be granted advanced standing for up to eight (8) units towards the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.
  2. Candidates, who have successfully completed the requirements of the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management at this University, may be granted advanced standing for up to sixteen (16) units towards the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.
  3. The School Board may grant advanced standing of up to sixteen (16) units, provided that:
    1. a maximum of four (4) units are counted towards Intern Study;
    2. a maximum of twelve (12) units are counted towards units other than Intern Study;
    3. Academic Board is notified of all instances where advanced standing in excess of twelve (12) units is granted.
  4. Advanced Standing of up to eight (8) units may be granted to candidates who have completed another undergraduate award of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. In addition, a candidate may apply to the Head of School to substitute other units for those previously completed. Unit substitution does not reduce the number of units required to complete the course. Advanced Standing in excess of eight (8) units may be granted by the Head of School in exceptional circumstances.
