Non School Leavers
Southern Cross University (SCU) offers a range of different pathways for those not coming straight from high school to university. These applicants may gain admission based on their previous secondary, tertiary or TAFE studies or by one of the Alternative Pathways to Study listed below:
Previous Year 12 studies
High school studies do not have a use-by-date and your results gained in senior secondary school can be used to gain entry to university many years later.
Previous TAFE or tertiary studies
Your previous post secondary studies, such as complete or incomplete tertiary or TAFE studies, may be used to formulate a selection rank to determine your eligibility for a place at SCU.
Pathways to Study
Preparing for Success
This free program is available every teaching session to eligible students who may not meet the formal entry requirements for admission to a degree or for those returning to study after some time.
Work experience
Work experience entailing a significant level of responsibility may be considered when calculating a selection rank for entry to university.
Personal Competencies Statement
If you do not have any qualifications or if your qualifications are not sufficient for entry, you may provide a Personal Competencies Statement. It is strongly recommended that you also sit the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT).
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
The STAT is available to any student over the age of 18 who does not have any formal qualifications. The test allows applicants to demonstrate their level of understanding and critical thinking.
Single Subject Studies
Students may obtain a selection rank by studying three or more miscellaneous units through SCU. Depending on the units you studied, you may also gain Advanced Standing (Credit) into your degree.
Indigenous students — Indigenous Australian Student Services (IASS)
Indigenous Australian Student Services (IASS) provides an extensive service to all Indigenous Australian peoples who are studying at Southern Cross University. There are IASS officers at Lismore, the Gold Coast and Coffs Harbour. Indigenous Australians looking for a pathway into tertiary education may be considered for admission to a SCU degree on the basis of individual assessment programs run by IASS.
SCU Elite Athletes and Performers Scheme
If you are an elite athlete or performer, SCU supports athletes competing at a National or International Level through the Elite Athletes Program.
Course Interviews
SCU Visual Arts programs require a portfolio of work and an interview to determine entry. Entry to The Hotel School in Sydney also requires an admission interview. Check individual courses in the Study Options for details.
