Best Practice for Student System and Finance One usage

To improve performance in Student System and Finance One please observe the practices suggested below.

Log out of Student System and/or Finance One at lunch time

This practice is the one which will deliver the biggest boost to performance. Of course it does not have to be lunch time, but you do need to be logged out for at least five (5) minutes to ensure the resources allocated to your session are released.

Rationale: the session starts accumulating resources from when you first log on, and some of them do not get released until you log off.

Use the DP for reports

"Wherever possible submit reports to the Distributed Processor. The default destination for reports is "My Reports & Files". If you wish to print the report choose the PDF format, if you want to manipulate the report you may wish to choose Excel format. The longer the time takes to run the report the more important it is to follow this guideline.

Rationale: Reports are the most demanding processes on the Citrix servers. Submitting them to a DP moves the system demand from the Citrix server(where you'll notice it) to the DP (where you won't).

Close Student System/Finance One windows when you are finished using them

A lot of people need a lot of windows open to be able to do everything expected of them. But be aware the more windows open, the more resources used.

Rationale: Each open window uses 30 to 40mb of memory on the server, whether it is being used or not. Closing windows releases memory and benefits all users on the same Citrix server as you.
