Databases
The databases are subject indexes to journal literature. That is,
they are tools
designed to help you find articles written about
the subject you are researching. Most databases cover the literature
in particular subject fields and you will often need to search several
databases to satisfy your research needs. Some databases will have
the entire text of an article available electronically but many
will offer only an article's bibliographic details and an abstract
(summary) of its contents.
To locate available databases, click on the
'Finding information' link at the top left
of this screen and select 'library
databases'. Details about which of these
databases may be useful for business topics are listed below.
Guides to searching these databases can be found
on the Library's Web site at: http://www.scu.edu.au/library/help/classes/guides.html
Those indicated with *Full
text provide the entire text of
documents for you to read immediately. If the article is only available
in abstract form, look for the SFX 'find full text'
button.
What is SFX?
SFX is software that works with the Library databases to
link from article citations to a list of available access options,
including the full text of the article if available. The
full text options offered through SFX reflect the SCU Library's
electronic journal subscriptions as well as a selection of journals
that are freely available on the Web. If the full text is not available
electronically through SCU Library, other search options will be
provided, eg. search the Library catalogue or use a search engine.
For more information about SFX go to the Library's 'Help
with SFX' page.
