Policy Statement

4 Policy DeclarationAll University Policies shall be presented in the format prescribed in the Statement of Requirements for Policies and recorded in the Register of Policies on the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Quality) site on the Southern Cross University website.
5 Policy Description 5.1 Objectives:
a. To ensure all policies are written, presented, approved and implemented in a standard format;
b. To ensure the most recent approved version of a policy can be easily located and is accessible on the web through a central register;
c. To establish a mechanism for the monitoring and regular review of all policies.

5.2 Content and Implementation:
When approved, adoption of this policy directive is mandatory for all policy development. Current policies are to be systematically reviewed and where necessary modified to reflect the requirements of this policy.

5.3 Scope:
This policy applies to the development of all Southern Cross University policies. Its application applies to all University staff involved in policy development, approval and review.
6 Definitions A Policy is a statement with broad and ongoing application throughout the University, which mandates decision-making or places constraints on activity and contains instructions to ensure compliance with appropriate standards governing the subject matter.

For the purposes of this definition, the Southern Cross University Act, the By-Laws, and Rules approved by Council and Academic Board are all defined as policies. Procedural requirements, which relate specifically to the operational activities of a section within the University and do not have the broad cross university application referred to above should not be titled Policy. Such activities may more correctly be labelled procedures, guidelines, provisions etc. The Statement of Requirements for Policies is an approved template describing the format as well as both mandatory and optional components of all policies. The Register of Policies is a comprehensive index of policies located on the PVC (Academic & Quality) website with links to the actual Policy Statements on their home sites.
