Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) Act 2011

The TEQSA Act 2011 established TEQSA as the agency to oversee the new National Regulatory and Quality Assurance environment for Australian Higher Education. TEQSA's primary aim is to ensure that all students (domestic and international) receive a high quality education at any Australian Higher Education provider.

TEQSA began operations on 30 July 2011 and regulatory functions 29 January 2012.

SCU has self-accrediting authority as a registered Higher Education provider under the TEQSA Act.

The Higher Education Standards Framework

TEQSA registers and evaluates the performance of higher education providers against the Higher Education Standards Framework. The framework consists of:

  1. The Higher Education Threshold Standards comprising of:
  2. a. Provider Standards, and

    b. Qualification Standards

    Amendments to the Threshold Standards to correct technical errors came in force on 16 February 2013. For further information, please refer to the Higher Education Standards website.

  3. Teaching and Learning Standards,
  4. Research Standards, and
  5. Information Standards

Regulatory Risk Framework

The TEQSA Regulatory Risk Framework sets out TEQSA�s policy and processes for identifying and assessing risk in the Higher Education sector.

Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000

TEQSA is the designated authority for higher education providers registered under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act). On 1 July 2012 TEQSA assumed full responsibility for registration, compliance and monitoring functions under the ESOS Act.
