The CTS in brief:

1. The CTS is funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST);

2. The CTS is designed to provide high quality research commercialisation training for the next generation of Australian researchers as a means of equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovations to market;

3. The CTS is for students currently enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) who are Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent residents;

4. Successful completion of the CTS will result in the CTS student being awarded a Graduate Certificate qualification, a Graduate Certificate in Research Management (GCRM) awarded by Southern Cross University (SCU);

5. All units of the GCRM taken under a CTS award will be accredited to a Graduate Diploma of Management, a Masters of Business Administration or a Masters of Technology and Management at SCU;

6. The CTS provides students' tuition fees ($6800 for units completed in 2010) and an allowance (up to $1000 per student). Allowances can be used to support costs associated with studying for the GCRM, including attendance at commercialisation conferences or meetings;

7. CTS students will normally enrol in the Graduate Certificate on a part-time basis over a 12 month period while concurrently enrolled in their HDR (full-time or part-time). Other enrolment options will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students may complete the Graduate Certificate during the thesis examination period for up to six months providing they have commenced prior to submission of the thesis.
