Southern Cross Plant Genomics

Southern Cross Plant Genomics (SCPG) is equipped with forefront genetic technologies and supports the centre's research activities as well as providing high quality, high throughput sequencing and genotyping services to external clients.

Major platforms include:

Illumina Genome Analyser IIx

The GA IIx is capable of massively parallel sequencing generating up to 21 gigabases per run.

This enormous output is leading to new approaches in SNP discovery, transcript profiling and phylogenomics.

Applied Biosystems 3730 Genetic Analyser

Applications include Sanger sequencing, SSR genotyping, TILLING and EMAIL.

Sequenom MassARRAY

This system processes samples using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) which can resolve mass differences to three Daltons.

Applications include high-throughput SNP genotyping and oligonucleotide quality control.
