"Diversity is the badge of freedom." ~ Michael Kirby

The Centre for Peace and Social Justice (CPSJ) is an interdisciplinary community of scholars, bringing together researchers from Law and Justice, Cultural Studies, Politics and Policy, Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Sciences, and Media.

The CPSJ focuses on markers of difference that potentially contribute to the inclusion or exclusion in full citizenship. Markers include gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, age, family status, material well-being, religion and identity. Researchers in the Centre are committed to strengthening core values of diversity including acceptance, mutual respect and recognition.

Examples of research strength include studies in:

  • Peace Studies
  • Conflict dissolution and Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Human rights theory and practice
  • Identity in terms of race, disability, sexuality, gender & age
  • Cultural diversity and transformative pedagogy
  • Engaged citizenship and belonging
  • Ethical interventions and social justice
  • Representation and the media
  • Power relations in diverse contexts
  • Restorative justice
  • Comparative and international law, criminology and victimology
  • Exclusion from and inclusion in full legal, political and cultural rights
  • Space, place and belonging

The Centre for Peace and Social Justice is well-positioned with its membership to provide a crucial space for research that ameliorates the human condition through principled support for diversity and difference.
