Cyclopes

cyclops

Cyclopes was developed by Dr Eric Kniest from the University of Newcastle in conjunction with SCU and the Cape Byron Whale Research Project.

Cyclopes is a real-time theodolite tracking system designed to accurately locate, measure, calculate and plot the position of objects located at sea. Other information, such as weather conditions, swell and visibility can also be entered into the system.

Cyclopes is generally designed to track pods of whales and dolphins, as well as vessels, in real time. Information such as the object's coordinates, speed, course, downtime, composition and behaviour is displayed as each measurement is made.

The object's position is also plotted as a track line on a map of the area.
