Nan Daeschler Hauser (Adjunct Professor)

Nan Daeschler HauserNan Hauser is the President and Director of the Center for Cetacean Research and Conservation. Her home base is in Rarotonga where she is the Principal Investigator of the Cook Islands Whale Research Project and Director of the Cook Islands Whale Education Centre. She is currently a PhD candidate at Southern Cross University in Australia.

For 8 years she was involved with the Ocean Alliance's cetacean research expeditions aboard the R/V Odyssey.

As Founder and Director of the New England Dolphin Outreach Project she has taught on a global level for the Dolphin Research Center, The Whale Conservation Institute and other non-profit organizations. As a Registered Nurse she teaches and practices medicine on the outer islands.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the Gulf of Maine Aquarium, Chewonkie Environmental Foundation and the National Marine Educators Association.

Her field research includes the Bahamas as a study site for beaked whales, dolphins, and other cetaceans including Mesoplodon densirostris, a rare beaked whale, which she and her team filmed underwater for the first time in history.

Nan serves on the Executive Committee, as a scientific contributor and as Secretary of the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium and was a key player in the creation of a 2 million square kilometre whale sanctuary in the E.E.Z. of the Cook Islands. She has built a whale education centre in Rarotonga where she teaches classes and seminars.
