Scholarship Criteria and Further Information

Commencing Student Scholarships

Please refer to application process and closing dates as indicated. Further scholarships will be posted to this list upon confirmation for 2013. All scholarships on offer for 2013 are current as at July 1, 2012 and are subject to change.

Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships
Application ProcessStudents must have a 1st preference for SCU via UAC or QTAC by close of preference dates for the main rounds of admission. The students achieving the highest ATAR or OP and commencing a course in 2013 will be shortlisted and offered accordingly.

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in any undergraduate program at any SCU Campus and selection based on:

  1. Academic achievement: an expected ATAR of 80+, QLD OP of 6 or better, or interstate equivalent, should be used as a guide for eligibility; No specific course or campus requirement.
  2. Scholarships will be awarded to the highest achieving male and female student gaining entry to an SCU undergraduate degree at each of the Gold Coast, Lismore and Coffs Harbour Campuses

Environmental Analysis Laboratory Scholarship

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the Environmental Analysis Laboratory Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in Bachelor of Environmental Science or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree at SCU’s Lismore campus and selection based on:

  1. Academic achievement: an expected ATAR (or interstate equivalent) of 80–85+ as a guide for eligibility.
  2. Any other evidence of outstanding academic performance, particularly excellent results in sciences and/or mathematics being desirable.
  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study an undergraduate full-time Bachelor of Environmental Science or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree at the Southern Cross University Lismore campus.
  4. The selection committee will also consider the applicants’ personal maturity and social responsibility as evidenced by contributions to the community and by comments of the school/college Principal/nominee.

Mary Dent Music Scholarship

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the Mary Dent Music Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in Bachelor of Contemporary Music degree at SCU’s Lismore campus and selection based on:

  1. Applicants must be either a current Year 12 student of St John’s Woodlawn College enrolling to study a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University; or a former student of St John’s Woodlawn College enrolling or already enrolled to study a Bachelor of Contemporary Music.
  2. Applicants must be accepted into the Bachelor of Contemporary Music Degree at Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus in order to be eligible for this scholarship.
  3. Applicants must show evidence of strong academic performance.
  4. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of personal maturity and social responsibility through contributions to the community and by the comments of the school /college.
  5. The selection committee may also consider the students commitment their musical studies as a part of the selection process.
  6. Generally applicants will be required to study full-time and on campus.
  7. Shortlisted applicants may also be required to attend an interview.

Tweed Shire Council Scholarships

  1. Academic achievement: an expected ATAR of 80–85+, QLD OP of 6 or better, or interstate equivalent, should be used as a guide for eligibility.
  2. Personal maturity and social responsibility, evidenced by contributions to school/college and community life, and by the comments the School/College Principal or nominee.
  3. Any evidence of meritorious performance.
  4. Applicants must reside within the boundaries of the Tweed Shire.
  5. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview.

  2. Personal maturity and social responsibility, evidenced by contributions to school/college and community life, and by the comments the School/College Principal or nominee.
  3. Any evidence of outstanding performance under conditions of hardship.
  4. Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Currumbin (north), Coffs Harbour (south) and Woodenbong/Bonalbo (west).

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the Fuji Xerox Business Centre Northern Rivers Engineering Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in Bachelor or Engineering degree at SCU’s Lismore campus and selection based on:

  1. Academic achievement: an ATAR equal or higher than the entry level required for the Bachelor of Engineering.
  2. Applicants must reside in Regional Australia.
  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study the Bachelor of Engineering degree at the Southern Cross University Lismore campus on a full-time basis.
  4. The selection committee will also consider the applicants experience of disadvantage (this may include carer responsibilities, sole parent responsibilities, financial hardship, English language difficulty, Indigenous Australian, long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing affects of abuse, regional or remote disadvantage for both Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians).

Selection Criteria

Applicants for The Lord’s Taverners (Northern NSW) University Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in any undergraduate program in the School of Education or Health and Human Sciences at any SCU campus and selection based on:

  1. Academic achievement: an expected ATAR of 70–75+ plus any other evidence of outstanding academic performance or offer of admission as a mature aged student.
  2. Applicants must reside within the Northern Rivers.
  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study any Bachelor degree in the School of Education or School of Health and Human Sciences at the Southern Cross University Lismore campus.
  4. Applicants must either personally fall into the Lord’s Taverners Northern NSW Inc’s definition of “disadvantaged” or demonstrate a commitment to work with young people who fall in this category.
  5. The selection committee will also consider the applicants personal maturity and social responsibility as evidenced by contributions to the community and by the comments of the school/college Principal or nominee.

Innis Foundation Scholarship for the Diploma of Sport Management (Surfing Studies)

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the Innis Foundation Scholarship must be aged 25 years or under as at January 1st in the year of admission to their course and selection will be based on one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Acceptance for enrolment in the Diploma in Sport Management (Surfing Studies).
  2. Personal maturity and social responsibility, as evidenced by contributions to school/college and community life, and by the comments of the School/College Principal or nominee.
  3. Demonstrated financial need as provided in their responses to questions on the application form and supporting documentary evidence provided.
  4. Applicants must satisfactorily demonstrate their commitment to completing the Diploma course within the one year of the scholarship by their answers to the questions on the application form.

Applicants for the Mayor of Lismore Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement (1 Year) must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in any Bachelor degree at SCU’s Lismore Campus and selection based on:

  1. Academic achievement with an ATAR of 80–85+ as a guide or other evidence of outstanding performance as a mature age student.
  2. Applicants must reside in the Lismore Local Government Area.
  3. Applicants who have achieved success under conditions of disadvantage or hardship will be considered favourably.

Selection Criteria

Applicants of the SCU Bowen Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and must reside in the SCU Feeder Region. Selection is based on:

  1. Demonstrated academic achievement or offer of entry as a mature age student.
  2. Ability to meet predetermined criteria for financial disadvantage.
  3. Ability to demonstrate other disadvantage or hardship.
  4. Ability to demonstrate commitment to the region through their contribution to their school and/or broader community, supported by the comments of their school or nominee

ANZ Indigenous Undergraduate Scholarship

Selection Criteria

Applicants for the ANZ Indigenous Undergraduate Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in any Bachelor degree, selection is based on:

  1. Academic achievement: an expected ATAR of 70+ as a guide for eligibility or offer of entry as a mature age student.
  2. Applicants must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in accordance with the Commonwealth definition which requires that the applicant:
    • Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
    • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
    • Be accepted as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he/she lives or has lived.
  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study full time in a Bachelor degree at the Lismore, Tweed Heads, Gold coast or Coffs Harbour campuses.
  4. This scholarship may be offered to a student enrolling in a Bachelor degree who has completed Southern Cross University’s Preparing for Success program.
  5. The student must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident.

Applicants for the Twin Towns Services Club Scholarship must be Australian citizens or permanent residents commencing study in any Bachelor degree at SCU’s Beachside (Bilinga), Riverside (Tweed Heads) or Lakeside (Caloola Drive). Selection is based on:

  1. Academic Achievement: An expected NSW ATAR of 80 -85+ as a guide for eligibility, plus an any evidence of outstanding academic performance or offer of admission as a mature aged student.
  2. Applicants must reside within the boundaries of the Tweed Shire and Gold Coast City Council Local Government Areas, Preference will be given to the students who live within the area from and including Burleigh Heads (South) to the Tweed Shire southern border.
  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study full time, in any degree at the Southern Cross University Beachside (Bilinga), Riverside (Tweed Heads) or Lakeside (Caloola Drive).
  4. Preference for the awarding of one scholarship will be given to a student enrolling in the Bachelor of Nursing degree.
  5. The selection committee will also consider the applicants personal maturity and social responsibility as evidence by contributions to the community and by the comments of the school/college principal or nominee.
  6. Preference will be given to awarding one scholarship to a male student and one to a female student.

  3. Applicants must be enrolling to study full time, in any degree at the Southern Cross University Beachside (Bilinga), Riverside (Tweed Heads) or Lakeside (Caloola Drive).
  4. Preference for the awarding of one scholarship will be given to a student undertaking a three year degree in the University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
  5. The selection committee will also consider the applicants personal maturity and social responsibility as evidence by contributions to the community as detailed in their response to the questions on the scholarship application form.
