BIRDS  OF  CERRA
Activity One

Activity Three

Activity Four

There are many outstanding birds who reside within the CERRA.  These rainforests are a refuge to some of the oldest and distinctive songbirds. In fact one of the reasons CERRA has World Heritage listing is due to the amazing birds that live there.  UNESCO states a significant value of these reserves is that there exists within the region ‘..an outstanding number of the oldest lineages of the Corvida –one of two major groups of true ancient songbirds..”

Activity-  part a-    Wouldn’t it be great to get out there in the forests and see what birds you could spot!
Then we could let everyone know who was living there and tell people why it’s so important to protect their habitat.
We don’t want to forget what we have seen and the best way to get all the correct information at the end of the day is to record it.

So it is up to you to design and create a survey form that would be used for bird spotting. Go to the websites below to check out information on bird surveys and see what other birdwatchers have done in their area. You may also want to conduct a websearch to find examples of survey forms, but be creative, think of how to design it so its easy for YOU to fill out.

Take a look at these sites for ideas :

Create the survey form using either a table in a word document or create a database in Microsoft Access and email it to your class teacher.

part b- Choose a park or reserve from the CERRA and discover 3 birds that live there. Fly through some sites searching for fact sheets on your chosen bird.  (Hint- start here at NPWS site).   As part of  your survey document write a brief description of the birds and find out what each birds conservation status is (e.g threatened or vulnerable).  Have you ever seen this bird up close?   For something extra see if you can find an image of your bird on the internet and incorporate this image into your word document.
