Types of Special Occasions

There are many special occasions celebrated in different communities in Australia and all around the world at which particular foods are prepared and help to form the focus of the celebration. What is special in one part of the world may not be special to another group. This is because special occasions vary in their origins. People celebrate religious festivals, family occasions, social events, and historical occasions.

Religious
Religion plays a large part in the lives of many people. Australia is a multicultural nation, which means it is made up of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. As a result, many religions are practiced in Australia. In fact some religious feasts are celebrated by people regardless of the religious significance of the occasion. There are a number of special occasions which relate to religion. eg. Easter, St Patrick's Day, Christmas Day, Ramadan.
