Further Qualifications

The School of Education provides opportunities for ongoing professional learning and development through postgraduate level coursework qualifications, which include the Master of Education, Doctor of Education, Master (Grad Cert, Grad Dip) of Childhood and Youth Studies, and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (Learning and Teaching).

Master of Education

The Master of Education (MEd) by coursework aims to extend the professional skills of practising teachers and other professionals in educational fields who wish to extend their current skills and knowledge, or advance into new areas of education or leadership. The course also provides an avenue for those who do not have a professional background in teaching, to learn more about different facets of the field of education. Students gain an introduction to educational research and select units to pursue their areas of interest. The Master of Education also provides a pathway to the Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Education degrees.

Doctor of Education

The Doctor of Education (EdD) aims to assist candidates to develop specialist knowledge in areas of Education directly related to their interests and professional needs. The program is particularly relevant for those wishing to pursue leadership positions in the professional field of Education. Candidates may choose from a range of study areas according to the availability of supervisors in the School, which currently has research expertise across several areas of Education, including early childhood, primary, secondary, technical, vocational, and higher education.

Master (Grad Cert, Grad Dip) of Childhood and Youth Studies

The School of Education in conjunction with the University's Research Centre for Children and Young People offers these qualifications which are designed to meet the needs of people working, or intending to work, with children, young people and their families. The program incorporates the latest research and explores the ways children, childhood and youth are conceptualised within family, community and international settings, including the theories, policies and practices that can inform professional practice. Ideal for professionals such as case managers, counsellors and mediators; school teachers and educational leaders; child, youth and family workers; government and NGO policy makers; and researchers and consultants.

Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice

The School of Education works in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Centre of Southern Cross University to offer the Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice. This degree provides a professional qualification in teaching and student learning for academics who are currently engaged in teaching in higher education settings.
