Current Research Interests
Fisheries Management.
Management of renewable natural resources, particularly management
of commercial, recreational and charter boat fisheries with particular
emphasis on integration of socio-economic and biological approaches
to management and development of performance indicators.
Ecology and Conservation of Fish and Crustaceans
Ecology and conservation of fish and crustaceans, particularly freshwater
species, studying habitat and distribution, and using molecular genetics
to examine population structure and genetic diversity and the impacts
of re-stocking programs.
Behaviour and Ecology of Dolphins
Acoustical and social behaviour of dolphins and their ecology, particularly
their use of inshore and estuarine habitats. Interests include wider
aspects of dolphine/human interactions, especially as they relate to
marine tourism and protected areas.
Courses
Commercial and Recreational Fisheries Management (BL233, third
year B.App.Sc.)
Looks at fisheries in the Australian and global contexts, the importance
of socio-economic factors in fisheries management and development of
property rights. Extensive use is made of case history examples to examine
methods, application and outcomes of the various fishery assessment,
management and regulation methods adopted in Australia, what works and
what doesn't work.
Integrated Project (GG211, third year B.App.Sc.)
Provides students with an opportunity to undertake a major research
or applied project involving the application of multidisciplinary skills.
This is double-weighted unit. Students prepare a professional standard
report on their project.
