PhD Program Structure
Prior to acceptance into the PhD program, applicants must complete the prerequisites for organisational change and research methods from Hawai'i Pacific University. Applicants may qualify for admission to the PhD program if they have successfully completed one of the following:
- Masters of Arts in Organisational Change from Hawai'i Pacific University
- Other Masters degrees from Hawai'i Pacific University and have completed one of the following:
- Certificate in Organisational Change and Development, or
- Certificate in National and Community Change and Development, or
- Certificate in Knowledge Management
- Other Masters degrees from an accredited university and a Certificate in Organisational Change and Development from Hawai'i Pacific University.
- An English language requirement of an original IELTS test result showing a score of 7.0 or better, including a minimum score of 6.5 in the sub-bands or an original TOEFL test result showing a score of 580 or better (minimum score of 237 for computer based), and a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 5.0.
Applicants who do not have an Honours or a research based degree are required to complete the Honours research units from Hawai'i Pacific University.
Program acceptance by SCU for the PhD is based on the careful evaluation of each individual applicant. Applicants without the necessary pre-requisites may be conditionally accepted, providing that they complete a PhD Qualifying Program to satisfy pre-requisites prior to being formally admitted to candidacy.

Flexible location
PhD candidates complete the degree requirements from any location in the world. Every year the program requires candidates to attend a one-week residential conference, normally held in Australia. During this conference, candidates have the opportunity to meet with other candidates and supervisors. Residential conferences are also important milestones in the progression of candidates toward the eventual completion of the requirements for the PhD in Organisational Change and Development.
Work at your own pace
Once you have completed a master's degree and have met the organisational change coursework and honours research prerequisites, there are no formal classes. Working professionals and other persons with schedule considerations have considerable flexibility in the PhD completion process, subject to the approval of supervisors.
