Activities and Initiatives

Our Activities for 2011-2015

  • Monitor and evaluate existing courses to ensure content, delivery and assessment has academic vigour, relevance and evidenced based
  • Monitor, evaluate and be responsive to student feedback about subjects and courses
  • Develop and deliver a range of short courses that will target industry and community participants
  • Implement new structure in Bachelor of Indigenous Studies to open more elective unit specialisations and options
  • Develop strategies to attract honours students like scholarships, prizes and bursaries
  • Re-introduce Master of Research, Doctor of Indigenous Philosophies and Doctor of Philosophies that requires significantly detailed proposal prior to acceptance into these programs
  • Identify and pursue research funding that seeks to address challenges faced by Indigenous communities and organisations
  • Work collaboratively with SCU researchers to undertake applied research relevant to Indigenous communities
  • Establish collaborative networks of researchers to work in partnership at regional, national and international level to undertake applied research that Indigenous and the wider community identify as
  • significant and beneficial
  • Undertake research capacity building, skills development and professional activities with Indigenous researchers and organisations
  • Seek and identify synergies between Indigenous researchers that value add to Indigenous organisational and community development
  • Assist in the establishment of an International Indigenous Studies Network with USA, New Zealand and Canada
  • Establish and implement a Cultural Safety Charter within Gnibi and offer cultural safety training and development
  • Standardise policy and procedures for teaching, learning and assessment practices across the College based on best practice for SCU
  • Be responsive to public policy on higher education, government and community priorities to new initiatives in Indigenous education and research
  • Work collaboratively with other Schools and sections of the university to develop effective ways of working with Indigenous populations
  • Attract leaders in Indigenous research to collaborate, support, encourage and develop a research agenda that is responsive to the needs and aspirations of Indigenous communities and
  • organisations
  • Undertake and develop community engagement activities and programs with Elders and community groups
  • Identify scales of economy in teaching and research opportunities within SCU and external to the university
  • Identify ways to effectively use of existing resources of the university that are not currently utilised in teaching, learning and research activities
  • Identify and reduce duplication in Gnibi's current educational and non-educational activities in relation to other departments of the university
