Welcome to the Medicinal Plant Garden
The Medicinal Plant Garden on the Lismore Campus of Southern Cross University contains an extensive and unique collection of medicinal plants from around the world.
The Garden incorporates the Australian Native Food & Medicine Garden comprising plants used by Australian Indigenous peoples for food or medicine. The Garden also features a number of thematic beds illustrating historical, scientific and other aspects of herbal medicine.
The Garden serves a number of functions:
- as a botanic garden that is integrated with the campus landscape
- as a "living laboratory" for teaching Naturopathy and Complementary Medicine
- as a community resource (disabled access)
- as a significant reference collection of medicinal plants
- as a resource for research projects on medicinal plants
Blackmores Walk
The Blackmores Walk is a five year joint funded project (2007-2011) between Marcus Blackmore and Southern Cross University. The major aspect of this project is the development of the 'Lake Walk' which encompasses two large pergolas, re-development of old gardens, a central lake sculpture and many small seating areas. The walk will link the gardens to the new multi-purpose Health Clinic.
The Marcus Blackmore Project Team consists of:
Project Manager: Geoff Callan
Uni Project Officer: Geoff Cottee
Gardener: Janet Chappell
The Medicinal Plant Garden is linked to the Medicinal Plant Herbarium
