Gold Coast campus
Gold Coast and Tweed Heads students of Midwifery, Nursing and Occupational Therapy are currently being taught at the University's Lakeside premises, Caloola Drive, Tweed Heads. The University is in the process of building on a three-hectare site at the southern end of the Gold Coast Airport Development Park located just 400 metres from North Kirra Beach. The new campus is due for completion at the end of 2011.
| The Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory is utilized by students enrolled in programs offered by the University, including Nursing, Midwifery and Occupational Therapy. A range of medical and diagnostic equipment and interactive software is available to provide students with hands-on learning experience in preparation for entry into nursing and allied health professions. Equipment includes life sized anatomical models, microscopes, histological slides and dissection equipment. |
| The Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Lab provides Occupational Therapy students with practical facilities in which to develop their clinical skills. The lab is outfitted with a range of adaptive equipment including: wheelchairs, an electric hospital bed and hoist systems, as well as accessible shower, bath and kitchen facilities that include an adjustable bench and wash basin. Students are able to apply therapeutic techniques in this model environment for simulating home, community, and hospital based rehabilitation for clients of all ages and abilities. |
| The Nursing Clinical Lab, currently under construction, is fitted with state of the art hospital and electronic teaching equipment. Students work with specialised mannequins to practice their nursing skills. Staff teaching in the Nursing Clinical labs are all practicing clinicians, and nursing technical staff are on site to prepare and assist in classes. |
| The Midwifery Birth Suite is designed to simulate childbirth environments from natural childbirth to high dependency births, using the latest technology. The Birth Suite will enable Midwifery students to utilise highly specialised equipment and practice on anatomical/simulation models. Students will also have access to a purpose built Neonatal Care environment at the new Beachside site once completed. |
