Dean of Law Welcome

Rocque Reynolds, Head, School of Law and Justice

On behalf of all School staff, I welcome you to the School of Law and Justice. We hope your studies are intellectually engaging and challenging, personally fulfilling and socially rewarding. We know they will give you a new way to think.

The School is committed to delivering excellence in all of our courses. The Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) is the primary academic degree required to qualify as a lawyer in Australia. The LLB is often taken as part of a double degree with Arts, Business, Contemporary Music, Legal and Justice Studies, Social Science, or Sport and Exercise Science. Southern Cross University was the first university in Australia to offer the two-year Associate Degree in Law (Paralegal Studies) (ADL) which provides specialised training for professional staff in the legal profession. Our Bachelor of Legal and Justice Studies (BLJS) is a three-year degree which provides a great foundation for those who want to work in or with the law other than as a lawyer. Each of these degrees is fully articulated with the LLB so that students who perform successfully may apply to move into the LLB. We also offer postgraduate studies by research, and we take pride in our research achievements.

LLB graduates from the Southern Cross University School of Law and Justice practise law in all Australian jurisdictions as well as internationally, working as barristers, solicitors and in the private, public and civil society sectors. The LLB is regarded as one of the most versatile professional degrees by many recruitment firms who believe that it equips graduates with the ability to formulate strategic responses; challenge and debate; conduct research; form decisions based on facts; negotiate and to operate within legal frameworks. Our ADL and BLJS graduates work as para-professionals and apply their skills and knowledge in many fields including policy making and governance.

Our academic staff are committed to quality teaching and research and bring with them a wealth of experience and global perspectives. Our professional staff are committed to serving student needs and promoting student well-being. We look forward to meeting you on campus or online soon. Together, we can make studying law at Southern Cross University a unique and memorable experience.
