Compulsory workshops - session dates

A compulsory workshop program is a key feature of our Bachelor of Laws (LLB). The program provides learning experiences that promote our values and legal skills, and improves students' capacities in critical analysis, legal theory, social critique, legal argument, and communication. Attendance at these workshops is a compulsory requirement of the LLB.

Workshop 1 (4 days)

Session A: Thursday 14 February 2013 – Sunday 17 February 2013 (Orientation week) (Gold Coast campus)

OR

Session B: Thursday 28 February 2013 – Sunday 3 March 2013 (Week 2) (Lismore campus)

OR

Session C: Thursday 7 March 2013 – Sunday 10 March 2013 (Week 3) (Gold Coast campus)

When: At the beginning of the first year of study

Who must attend?

  • Compulsory for students enrolled in LAW00111 Legal Process

Workshop focus:

  • Transition into a Bachelor of Laws – graduate attributes and threshold learning outcomes
  • Legal education and critical legal analysis
  • Study skills for the Bachelor of Laws
  • Resilience – surviving law at SCU.

How to register for one of the three workshop sessions:

  • Once formally admitted in the Bachelor of Laws degree, go to MyEnrolment to enrol in your units of study for 2013. You MUST enrol in LAW00111 Legal Process for Session 1 2013.
  • When you enrol in LAW00111 Legal Process you will find a link to the First Year External Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Workshop Learning Site on your MySCU homepage. Click on that link, and follow the instructions provided to 'sign up' for your selected workshop session.

Workshop 2 (4 days)

Wednesday 10 July 2013 – Saturday 13 July 2013 (Gold Coast campus)

When: During third year of (full-time) study while studying LAW00519

Who must attend:

  • Compulsory for students enrolled in LAW00519 Professional Conduct
  • Students are expected to have completed LAW00520 Philosophy of Law.

Workshop focus:

  • Legal interviewing, negotiation and advocacy
  • Ethical legal practice
  • Regulation of the legal profession
  • Trust accounting for legal practice.
