Selection criteria - Public Interest Advocacy Scholarship 2011

The Public Interest Advocacy Scholarship 2011 is available to the general public and is a study scholarship that covers the cost of the unit LAW10160 Public Interest Advocacy.

Aim of the scholarship

It is part of the vision of the Southern Cross University School of Law and Justice to promote social justice and ethical values. This scholarship is a practical way for the School to make a positive contribution towards this vision. This scholarship provides an opportunity for an up-and-coming social change worker to engage in additional university-level training with a view to enhancing their capacity to successfully achieve real outcomes in their chosen field.

In determining the successful applicant for the Public Interest Advocacy scholarship, the following selection criteria will be considered:

Essential criteria

  1. Evidence of personal commitment to working for social change and/or environmental protection
  2. Evidence of history of membership, volunteering or employment in social change or environmentalist organisations
  3. Evidence that the training would help the applicant to achieve greater success in current or intended campaign work
  4. Evidence of capacity to successfully undertake tertiary study and engage in independent research
  5. Evidence that the applicant will be able to attend the Byron Bay Summer Law School to complete the subject

Desirable criteria

  1. Evidence that the applicant is engaged in a course of study in which the subject could be counted as an elective
  2. Evidence that the applicant would otherwise have financial difficulties enrolling in a subject of this nature

References from established social change and environmental organisations, or prominent persons attesting to an applicant's dedication and experience will be an advantage.
