Welcome from The Hon Greg James QC, Chair of Southern Cross University's Law Advisory CommitteeNow in its 13th year, the Southern Cross University Summer Law School at Byron Bay once again offers a range of challenging and interesting law units with credit recognition available to students studying law throughout Australia. Summer School also offers wonderful opportunities for social interaction and recreation and attracts students from across Australia and overseas. During my working life, formerly as Supreme Court Judge and currently as President of the Mental Health Tribunal, it has been my pleasure to mentor and assist students not only in their studies but also in helping them to make career and academic decisions. I have also enjoyed being able to offer students advice on the practice of law, careers opportunities available in the legal profession and the wider world. For me personally, it has been wonderful here at Southern Cross University to combine my interests in law and the surf.
About Summer Law SchoolThe School of Law and Justice offers the Summer Law School every year, with one-week intensive classes running during November and December. One of the most beautiful locations in the world, Byron Bay NSW, is the location for this exciting and academically rigorous program. The Summer Law School offers a range of niche and non-mainstream subjects delivered by School of Law and Justice Lecturers and a variety of distinguished Australian and International guest presenters. Students can choose up to two units, which are delivered intensively, depending on the length of time they wish to study and their particular interests. Summer School is ideal for students, lawyers, industry professionals, senior bureaucrats and those requiring knowledge and understanding from the units on offer. Cross-institutional, non-award and international students are particularly welcome. Legal practitioners may be eligible for MCLE/CLE points. This is also the second year of our collaboration with Chapman University School of Law, California, USA. We will jointly offer two units over the New Year that have been approved by the American Bar Association, but are also available on a HECS basis to any Australian Law Student. This will be a great opportunity for Australian and American Law students to meet and interact.
