John Stevens RN PhD (Editor AEJNE)

Thank you to all contributors and readers. Your patience is greatly appreciated. It has been a longer wait than expected for the first edition for 2001. I hope the waiting will have been worth it for all. This first edition is quite special in that it brings together a range of research based papers to explore many of the issues surrounding the electronic revolution in nursing education and research. Electronic education in nursing was born last century in the late 1990Ős. Its first steps are now being taken and, with the enthusiasm generally reserved for first time parents, our contributors are keen to show you their early reports. Beware, the child is growing fast; blink! and next we will be going to its graduation.

Electronic nursing education is advancing at an incredible rate. The depth and breath of this edition is evidence of this. As part of my role as editor I review literature from a broad spectrum of professions and educational domains. It is patently clear that nurses around the world are embracing and exploring this new way of doing things in a way not perceptible in any other profession. Nurses are leading the way in exploring the boundaries of this new tool; the electronic media. If knowledge is power then those professions and professionals who engage these new ways of knowing effectively are poised for a very exciting decade.
