About the School and Programs:
The School of Arts and Social Sciences offers a diverse range
of accredited programs, both internally and externally in fields
such as community development, social welfare, politics and international
studies, sociology, counselling and mediation studies. The programs
emphasise "real-world" skills and knowledge base and are
designed to give graduates a competitive edge, accelerated progression
through their chosen field, and qualifications that frequently result
in employment advancement and alternate opportunities.
Is the program for you?
The Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses are aimed at
those people involved in the Emergency Management and/or Humanitarian
fields who have an interest in developing their community development
knowledge and practice base.
Specifically, people involved in disaster response and mitigation
in Australia and internationally will consolidate and further develop
their skills.
What can we offer you?
Online course delivery offers you access to up-to-date knowledge
and information. Our lecturers guide you through the maze of available
resources.
What do you bring to this course?
You will have an interest in developing your knowledge base in Community
Development or in enabling communities to deal with disasters or
emergency situations. You may already have experience in working
in the human services, in disaster-prone areas or have had dealings
with emergency management issues or, alternatively, you may have
satisfied the requirements for obtaining a degree or have undertaken
other studies in related areas. You also may be interested in working
in humanitarian aid in the future.

From a technological perspective, you will have:
- An enthusiasm and interest in studying online;
- Competency in computer use;
- A preparedness to regularly to interact with course material,
fellow students and your unit facilitator.

Completely
online study
This program also offers freedom and total flexibility
by being available completely online. You can work where
and when you wish, using your web browser to access
the course on any computer.

Where do you go from here?
Enrolments are available at any time, for commencing study at the
beginning of the following trimesters. In 2008, Trimester A commences
21 January, Trimester B on May 12, and Trimester C on 1 September.
