Honours Scholarships
The School of Arts and Social Sciences will offer up to 5 scholarships of $5000 to incoming honours students. The scholarship program will support students to work closely with one or more academic staff from the School (normally their honours supervisor) on a research project of mutual interest. The discipline is open to any area in the School.
The School is particularly interested in supporting work which directly engages with the community, has clearly defined research goals, and has a clear vision for research outputs including work published in scholarly forms. While the honours thesis itself must be an individual work of the student, we anticipate that co-authored and collaborative works may also emerge from the research supported.
Selection Criteria for Scholarship
Applications will be evaluated on:
- the quality of the student's academic record;
- the extent to which the proposed project aligns with the supervisor's existing research interests and outputs; and
- the strength of the research project proposal.
Research project proposals should address the following elements:
- The research to be undertaken, including the role of the student, and whether and how the student's honours work articulates with a wider research agenda;
- The demonstrable benefits arising from any community engagement involved in the research;
- The research goals (i.e. what is to be learned from the work); and
- the research outputs (how the research results will be communicated publicly).
Students must be enrolled in a School of Arts and Social Sciences Honours program to receive a scholarship payment.
Applications for Honours Scholarships are managed by the SCU Scholarships Office and will:
- open mid-October via myEnrolment
- close 30 November, and
- the results will be announced mid-January.
Details on how to apply may be found on the SCU Honours Scholarships site
If you wish to apply for a Honours Scholarship, please keep the above evaluation criteria in mind as you prepare your Honours application, and in particular, your project proposal.
