Industry Advisory Board
The Southern Cross University School of Tourism & Hospitality Management Industry Advisory Board is made up of tourism industry leaders who provide industry related advice and support to the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and The Hotel School Sydney.
The Board Members are:
John King (Chairman), Managing Director, Global Tourism & LeisureJohn King is Managing Director of the tourism marketing and development consultancy, Global Tourism & Leisure and an adviser to tourism authorities and industry organisations throughout Asia, the Pacific and Middle East. Mr King's 37 years of tourism industry experience also includes 12 years in senior executive positions with the Australian Tourist Commission. He is Chairman of the Australian Tourism Export Council, and is also actively involved in other industry and company boards in Australia and overseas. He was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his contribution to tourism in 2011, the 2010 Pacific Asia Travel Association Award of Merit for Tourism leadership and is an Honorary Fellow of Southern Cross University. | |
| Geoff Beames (Deputy Chairman), Wine Lodges GroupGeoff Beames has more than 51 years experience in tourism, airline management, merchant banking and stock exchange management. He was Director of Airline Operations for TAA and Executive Director of Ansett. A professional Company Director, Mr. Beames holds university qualifications in commerce and accountancy and attained the first Master in International Tourism Management awarded by Southern Cross University. In 2004 he was honoured as the University's Alumnus of the Decade for services to tourism. |
Janette Davie, General Manager, Pinpoint Travel GroupJanette Davie is currently General Manager of Pinpoint Travel Group, which includes United Vacations, Singapore Airlines Holidays, Freestyle Holidays, Rosie Holidays, and Travel on Sales. Ms Davie has more than 25 years experience in the Inbound and Outbound Travel industry in Australia and America, in both wholesale and retail businesses. She has served on the boards of many tourism industry associations including the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, Visit USA and the Council of Australian Tour Operators. | |
| Anna Guillan, Executive General Manager Sales & Marketing Hayman & Mulpha Hotels AustraliaAnna Guillan's tourism sales and marketing experience spans more than 20 years of senior positions with InterContinental Hotels Group, Voyages Hotels & Resorts, Hayman and Mulpha Hotels Australia. She is also Non Executive Director of CareFlight, past vice-chairman of the Australian Tourism Export Council, Co-Founder of the NELUNE Foundation and a member of many tourism advisory boards. |
Tim Harrowell, Sales Manager NSW/ACT, EmiratesTim Harrowell is currently Sales Manager NSW/ACT for Emirates airlines and since 2000 has played an important role in expanding the number of flights on the Australia-Dubai route from four to 77 per week. Mr Harrowell previously spent 17 years working for Ansett Australia as NSW Commercial Sales Manager, NSW Retail Manager and South Australian Sales & Marketing Manager. | |
Jenny Lourey, Senior Vice President, Carnival AustraliaPrior to being in the cruise business Jenny held numerous senior management positions in the Travel Industry �around the world including, Group General Manager of Qantas Holidays, Area General Manager Asia Pacific, Western Europe and Mediterranean for British Airways. She started her career with Qantas. Ms Lourey has undertaken management studies at Harvard University in Boston, INSEAD at Fontainebleu in France, London Business School, UNSW Graduate School of Management and Sydney University. She has been Chair and/or a director of several Qantas Holidays group companies both in Australia and overseas and was a Non Executive Director of Concorde International Travel. | |
Elizabeth Rich, Manager, Agenda Pty Ltd.Elizabeth Rich is well known as one of the leading personalities and representatives of the meetings industry in Australia. In addition to operating Agenda, her business events company, Elizabeth is the Chief Executive of the Business Events Council of Australia, a peak advocacy body. Elizabeth has developed a reputation as an innovative industry thinker with a formidable reputation as an "on stage" moderator. She regularly lectures at business events in Australia and overseas, writes for trade magazines, and has received a number of awards over her 30 years in the industry. | |
Peter Townsend, National Sales Manager Sightseeing, AAT KingsPeter Townsend is National Sales Manager, Sightseeing with AAT Kings and a member of the NSW committee board of the Australian Tourism Export Council. Peter's tourism career began in the hospitality industry in the UK where he joined Contiki as European Tour Driver/Training Manager. After five years with Contiki he moved to Australia and joined AAT Kings. Peter is involved in the Free Independent Traveller market and is currently becoming involved in the Inbound Tourism business. | |
Paul Donovan, Chief Operating Officer, Gold Coast Airport Pty LtdWith more than 30 years experience in aviation and tourism, Paul has held several executive appointments with airlines in Australia and New Zealand. These roles included the NSW regional Director for Ansett and Ansett Global Director of Sales. Paul also chaired most of Ansett Airlines� revenue-related businesses, which included Traveland and Show Travel. At Qantas Paul was the General Manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands, and was an alternate Director at Air Pacific. In his current role with Gold Coast Airport Pty Ltd, Paul is responsible for the general management of the day-to-day operations of Gold Coast Airport.� Since 2005, he has overseen several key projects including the airport master plan and is also involved in attracting and growing airline partnerships to the Airport. Paul is also Chair of the Gold Coast Tourism Board. | |
John Parche, Hotelier, The Byron at Byron Resort and SpaJohn Parche is a hotelier with more than 45 years experience in national and international marketplaces. He began his career in hotels at the London Hilton, Dorchester and Grosvenor House Hotels and later the newly opened Sydney Hilton when he returned to Australia. He has been the General Manager of several highly successful hotels and resorts both in Australia and overseas where he has directed business operations to improve profits and marketing strategies while maintaining superior customer service. John owns Aspac Hotel Management which operates The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa in partnership with Harvey Norman Holdings. |
