Careers Day
What is Career's Day?
Each year the Southern Cross University's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), in conjunction with Griffith University, hosts a Careers Day for all STHM students. Careers Day provides a wonderful opportunity for students from both universities to meet with key organisations in the tourism, hospitality, events, sport, leisure and real estate sectors in order to discuss career options, employment opportunities and current trends within the sectors. Another important component of the day is the panel presentations. These involve industry representatives and allow students the opportunity to gain information in a structured question and answer forum. The forums are on topics relevant to the various degrees and issues within the industry.
On average 35-40 industry representatives attend Careers Day. Over past years this has included Rydges Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Hotels, ATEC, Toga Hospitality, AFL Queensland, Gold Coast Convention Centre, Gold Coast Tourism. Queensland Events Gold Coast, AMF Bowling, The Hughenden Boutique Hotel and Australian University Sports, to name just a few.
How should I prepare?
Careers Day is a professional event and students are encouraged to treat the day as such - wearing suitable clothing, having résumés and questions prepared and making the most of this opportunity to discuss career paths with industry representatives. Students are provided with a list of attending companies in order to prepare for the day.
Students can find more details about Careers Day by visiting the Careers Day site on MySCU.
