Southern Cross Plant Science carries out research underpinning the cultivation and utilisation of plants. We harvest knowledge of how genetic and environmental factors contribute to end-use properties of crops and other added-value natural products.

Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) 2012 outcomes:
SCU achieved the highest rating of '5' = 'outstanding performance, well above world standard' for:
- 0703 Crop and pasture production - one of only two universities rating '5'
- 0705 Forestry sciences - one of three universities rating '5'
- 07 Agricultural and veterinary sciences -one of two rating '5', out of 18 assessed
and rating '4' = above world standard for the general area of Biological sciences.
