Careers CounsellingPlanning your career can be quite daunting, however, to leave your planning to the last minute or not to plan at all, could leave you at the end of your degree wondering what the last three or four years have all been about. The definition of a ‘job’ — a particular occupational position that is held at a given point in time. A ‘career’ on the other hand can be considered as — a sequence of jobs occupied over a period of time. These may or may not be related to each other. Depending on our definition of work, our jobs and careers might include both paid and non-paid positions. Anyone who presently has a job or has had a number of jobs can be considered to have a ‘career’. If a career is considered as a series of jobs over time, this means that a career is something which is prone to change. Therefore, a career should be considered as something which is dynamic rather that static.
