Presentation (5 marks)
The essay is well written and presented and conforms to standards of academic writing:

  1. spelling is correct throughout
  2. sentences are complete and concise
  3. the meaning of the sentences is clear
  4. there is a logical flow of ideas and development of argument
  5. the essay does not exceed the word limit
  6. Tables and Figures are numbered consecutively and have a title and reference

 

 

Originality and referencing (5 marks)

The work is original and the sources of material are acknowledged:

  1. less than 5% of the assignment is in the form of quotes
  2. the sources of all ideas contained in the assignment are referenced correctly in the text and reference list
  3. the sources of information are recent and reliable

 

 

Content choice A (20 marks)

  1. Explains how the skeletal, muscle and integumentary systems interact to preserve homeostasis
  2. Names one disease in which these homeostatic relationships are disturbed
  3. Explains how the disease process occurs and how homeostasis is disrupted
  4. Attaches a concept map that clearly illustrates the interactions between the skeletal, muscle and integumentary systems and demonstrates how these interactions maintain homeostasis

 

 

Content choice B (20 marks)

  1. Describes one example of a structural change occurring at a molecular level that results in human disease
  2. Describes how the change in structure in turn changes function
  3. Explains how the chosen disease disrupts homeostasis
  4. Attaches a concept map that clearly illustrates the relationships described in the essay

 

 

 

Fail:

The student’s performance fails to satisfy the basic learning requirements specified.

Terminating Pass:

The student’s performance satisfies most of the basic learning requirements specified but is not sufficient to provide a sound basis for proceeding to higher-level studies in the subject area.

Pass:

The student’s performance satisfies all of the basic learning requirements specified and provides a sound basis for proceeding to higher-level studies in the subject area. The student’s performance could be described as satisfactory or adequate or competent or capable in relation to the learning requirements specified.

Credit:

The student’s performance, in addition to satisfying all of the basic learning requirements specified, demonstrates insight and ability in researching, analysing and applying relevant skills and concepts. The student’s performance could be described as better than satisfactory or adequate or competent or capable in relation to the learning requirements specif ied.

Distinction:

The student’s performance, in addition to satisfying all of the basic learning requirements, demonstrates distinctive insight and ability in researching, analysing and applying relevant skills and concepts, and shows a well-developed ability to synthesize integrate and evaluate knowledge. The student’s performance could be described as distinguished in relation to the learning requirements specified

High Distinction:

The student’s performance, in addition to satisfying all of the basis learning requirements, demonstrates distinctive insight and ability in researching, analysing and applying relevant skills and concepts, and shows exceptional ability to synthesise, integrate and evaluate knowledge. The student’s performance could be described as outstanding in relation to the learning requirements specified.
