University Medal and Prizes

The University Medal

University Medals are awarded annually at the discretion of the Academic Board (on the nomination of a School Board) to candidates who have completed the requirements of a Bachelor degree with first class honours and who at all times have demonstrated a very high standard of academic achievement. University Medals are normally only awarded to students with a course Grade Point Average of Distinction (6.00) in their undergraduate degree (excluding honours year units), and where a minimum of 66% of the award has been completed at Southern Cross University.

Awarded to the most outstanding graduating student in the Bachelor of Media.

The Australian Cultural Studies Prize – $440

Awarded to the graduating student with the best Grade Point Average in the Bachelor of Arts and who has completed the study of a Cultural Studies major.

Awarded to the best Honours student within the final year of the Bachelor of Psychology with Honours.

The Australian Taxation Office Award for Taxation Law – $1,000

Awarded to the Bachelor of Business student achieving the highest grade in the Taxation or Advanced Taxation unit within the Accounting or Advanced Accounting Major, with the highest overall Course Grade Point Average.

The Barry Poole Memorial Prize – $500

Awarded to the graduating student with the best academic performance in the Bachelor of Business in Tourism course.

The Gnibi Indigenous Community Engagement Prize – $500

Awarded to the graduating student from a course coordinated by Gnibi. The student must have demonstrated significant contributions to Indigenous Communities.

The Centre for Coastal Management Prize – $250

Awarded to the graduating student with the best academic performance in the Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Environmental Science and Bachelor of Marine Science and Management courses.

The Coffs Harbour City Council Prize – $300

Awarded to the highest performing graduating student (as determined by the highest grade point average) in the Bachelor of Business in Hotel and Catering Management at the Coffs Harbour Campus.

The Coffs Harbour Rotary Club Prize – $200 to student (Perpetual Trophy to be presented each year)

Awarded to the student who has achieved the highest result in Year 2 of the Bachelor of Hotel and Catering Management at the Coffs Harbour Campus.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants Award for Outstanding First Year Accounting Student – $500

Awarded to the Bachelor of Business student achieving the highest grade in the Introduction to Accounting unit within the Accounting Major, with the highest overall Course Grade Point Average.

Awarded to the Bachelor of Business student achieving the highest grade in the Management Accounting unit within the Accounting Major, with the highest overall Course Grade Point Average.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants Award for Outstanding Third Year Accounting Student – $750

Awarded to the Bachelor of Business student achieving the highest grade in the Contemporary Issues in Accounting unit within the Accounting Major, with the highest overall Course Grade Point Average.

The Natural and Complementary Medicine Academic Achievement Award – $300

Awarded to the graduating student with the highest Grade Point Average in the Bachelor of Naturopathy.

The Gairbraid Scholarships – Determined annually

Awarded to the most meritorious male or female school leaver in their first year of a course at Southern Cross University (Coffs Harbour Campus), taking into account their financial circumstances, who in their previous year gained their HSC from a public high school in the Coffs Harbour region.
