Since graduating from Southern Cross University in 1992, Inga Liljeström has established herself as a leading talent in the field of experimental contemporary music. From 1998 to 2008, she released four solo albums and one DVD including her vocal contributions to the 2001 hit song "Dust Me Selecta" by Gerling. Inga is now a Sydney and Paris based singer/composer who has performed continuously to sold out houses both nationally and internationally including the Sydney Opera House and international music festivals. She has recently toured through South America, the Czech republic and Paris. She has performed with well known groups and artists such as The Church, Goldfrapp and Sinead O'Connor. Her first commercially released album, "Elk", received critical acclaim and features her skills of composing, arranging and her distinctive mesmerising vocals.
Inga's work has been described more as an aural landscape than a standard pop singer. She constructs songs of light and shadow, mystery and revelation. She has an exceptional musical diversity and vocal dexterity which she has used to create a unique performance within the pop, jazz genre. Items such as toy pianos, telephones and percussive objects are transformed into musical instruments and interwoven with the more traditional instruments of her supporting musicians to create a unique soundscape and performance experience. She has just completed her first artist in residency in Nykarleby, Finland.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 2012 Undone: A collaboration of music, film and art.
This project was the initiative of Leigh Carriage (Lecturer in vocal studies and musicology) and coordinator of the APRA Songwriting Visiting Artists Program, following discussions with Inga Liljeström in June 2011.
A Southern Cross University graduate, Inga Liljeström has established herself as a leading talent in the field of experimental contemporary music and securing her services as Artist in Residence was an excellent opportunity to provide students to work with an international artist who crosses genres, delivers innovative workshops, embraces all art forms and pushes the boundaries in con-temporary music.
Inga has composed music for film and animations and has performed with well-known groups and artists such as The Church, Goldfrapp and Sinead O'Connor. Her first commercially released album, "Elk", received critical acclaim and features her skills of composing, arranging and her dis-tinctive mesmerising vocals. Inga is now a Sydney and Paris based singer/composer who has performed continuously to sold-out houses both nationally and internationally including the Syd-ney Opera House and international music festivals.
The project was offered to students across the School of Arts and Social Sciences as an option for their Arts Project Unit SOY10114 (Appendix 1) as well as an addition to their studies that was non-assessable. The project ran over three weeks commencing on Thursday 29th March, with a public performance on 20th April in Studio ONE29, D Block Theatre..
