Dr Helen Breen BA (Deakin), BBus (Hons) (UNE), MBus (SCU) PhD (SCU). Helen was a senior lecturer and academic coordinator in the School of Business and Tourism, and is now an Adjunct in the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts.


Helen’s early research focused on business, hospitality and tourism management, then later on public health studies into harm minimisation, consumer protection and corporate social responsibility regarding gambling, and assessing impacts of gambling with specific groups including Indigenous people, tourists, women, seniors, counselors, club members and those affected by family violence.

Community engagement

Among other community engagement activities, Helen has conducted workshops for practitioner and community groups (health and welfare services, gambling counselors), consulted with government departments (Social Services), established networks and long-term relationships with Indigenous groups across Australia and undertaken outreach activities with national and international public health agencies.

Teaching and Supervision

For undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, Helen has lectured on business, tourism, hospitality and gaming management. She has been proactive in mentoring and supervising students and colleagues at all academic levels. As well, Helen has been invited onto various academic boards, journal editorial committees and scholarly review panels for grants, awards and adjudication decisions.
