Biography
Rudi has worked at SCU and its predecessor institutions since October 1989. During this time, he has worked with professional and international rugby football teams, held senior coaching roles with professional teams in Australia and England, and been a consultant to teams in Ireland, Wales, South Africa and Japan.
Research
Rudi's research interests are in elite team sport performance and program design. However, he has published widely on a range of topics that include exercise technique, fluid loss in team sports and recreational surfing, long-term injury consequences, ergogenic aids in sport, and attitudes of adolescent athletes to performance enhancing drugs.
Community engagement
As a coach and applied sport scientist, Rudi has worked with numerous teams from the Far North Coast of NSW. These have included junior rugby league, senior rugby league and rugby union teams, and regional senior and junior representative teams.
Supervision
Rudi has supervised students to Honours and postgraduate students at Master of Science and PhD level at SCU.
Teaching
Areas of undergraduate teaching - sports conditioning and training methods, and sport marketing and promotion. Vice Chancellor's award for teaching excellence, 2014.
Other
Reviewer for 150+ journal papers, thesis examiner and reviewer for TEQSA. Member of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (L2 coach), and National Strength and Conditioning Association of America (CSCS since 1991). Associate Editor for the NSCA’s Strength and Conditioning Journal, and Editorial Board Member for Journal of Sport Sciences.
