Biography

Dr Caroline Sullivan is currently Professor, Environment, Science and Engineering. She is an ecological and environmental economist specialising in water management and policy, climate adaptation and valuation of ecosystem services. Professor Sullivan has worked with a wide range of stakeholder groups, and has considerable international development experience in both water management and forestry projects in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Research

Professor Sullivan has extensive natural resource research experience, working for many years on wetlands, flood mitigation, agroforestry, ecosystem values and services, tourism, water economics, transboundary water management, and adaptation to climate change. Professor Sullivan has worked with a wide range of stakeholder groups, and has considerable international development experience in both water management and forestry projects in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Her current research interests focus on improving water management for both humans and ecosystems, such as Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and the development of integrated indices, most notably the Water Poverty Index and the Climate Vulnerability Index. Dr Sullivan is currently a member of the Expert Panel on Water and Forests, for the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO), and also a fellow of the ANU Centre for Water Economics, Environment and Policy. She is also a member of the SCU Marine Ecology Research Centre and a co-founder of a local river-health advocacy group, 'Richmond Rivers Rescue'. Professor Sullivan is one of the founding signatories of the 'Geneva Action on Human Water Security'. Professor Sullivan has a strong record of scientific publications, including in the journal 'Nature'.

Teaching

Dr Sullivan currently teaches Environmental and Ecological Economics to School of Environment, Science and Engineering undergraduate and post graduate students. She teaches undergraduate and post graduate courses on Natural Resource Policy, and Environment and Development.

Supervision

Professor Sullivan has been external examiner for post-graduates and PhD students from a number of Universities, both in Australia and overseas.
