Mr Tin Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen Van Tri Tin is an Adjunct Researcher in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University. He works closely with WWF-Viet Nam, where he serves as Biodiversity Conservation Lead, to advance joint research, training, and policy dialogue on biodiversity and sustainability. His work particularly focuses on the Central Annamite Landscape of Vietnam, one of Southeast Asias most important regions for wildlife and forest conservation.

Dr. Tins research interests span three main areas:

  • Biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection including protected area management, ecological connectivity, species monitoring, wildlife rescue and rewilding, and the use of GIS and database tools.

  • Forest development and management with experience in forest restoration, seedling and nursery systems, community forest management, and carbon sequestration monitoring.

  • Collaboration, education, and training delivering guest lectures, seminars, and workshops; mentoring students; and building partnerships across governments, NGOs, and communities.

With more than 25 years of international experience, Dr. Tin has led conservation and development programs in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Australia. He has held senior technical and leadership roles with WWF, USAID, KfW, UNDP, CIFOR, and ICRAF, working across diverse cultures and sectors to design and implement integrated solutions for people and nature.

Dr. Tin completed his PhD in Connectivity Conservation at Southern Cross University, a Masters in Environmental Science and Policy at Clark University (USA), and a Diploma in Wildlife Management at the Wildlife Institute of India. His interdisciplinary approach brings together ecological, social, and economic perspectives to address the pressing challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change, and sustainable development.

Through his adjunct role at SCU, Dr. Tin contributes to strengthening international collaboration, supporting Australias regional engagement in environmental sustainability, and inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders.
