Rob Garbutt is a Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies and Written Communication at the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Rob is currently the Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning). His research takes an interdisciplinary cultural studies approach to issues of place, identity and belonging. Much of this work takes place with community members, or in collaboration with other researchers. His publications have focused on "settler" identity (for example in two books The locals and Inside Australian culture), explorations of relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians (in journals such as History and Anthropology and Cosmopolitan Civil Societies), and relationships in place between human and more-than-human inhabitants (in Continuum, Coolabah, M/C Journal and Transformations). In each instance, it is place, belonging and identity that are contexts for matters of concern. Back to Staff Directory
