Dr Denise N. Rall finished her PhD in Internet Studies from Southern Cross University in 2007, with research conducted at Internet Studies at Curtin University in Western Australia, the University of Minnesota, and Oxford Internet Institute. Her PhD explored the disciplinary issues for internet scholars.
Since then, Rall's research and practice has changed radically to include fashion and textile art. Denise is a conceptual costumier, putting costumes on mannequins with 'fairy tale' personalities. She has exhibited in the Northern Rivers area, in Sydney (the Rocks) and in the USA. Her work was recently showcased at the Gallery 159 in Brisbane. In 2015, she has examined textile-based PhD projects at RMIT?s School of Fashion and Textiles in Melbourne, and examined another thesis relating to Australian women?s work as activists in domestic cookery.
She currently works with Arts Project students and has published on women, craft and the internet, including a collaborative paper with Moya Costello on constructing garments as memory pieces (2013). Another recent collaboration included SCU's poetry students and academics reading from their works while wearing her fashions, entitled "Wear the Wild Words."
In 2014, Rall's edited collection Fashion & War in Popular Culture, is currently available from Intellect Publishing in the UK Intellect Books UK.
