Dr Ali Reza Alaei obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Mysore, India, in 2012. For his PhD thesis, he worked on the segmentation and recognition of handwritten document images. He has since worked as a Post-Doc research fellow at the Computer Science Laboratory of Tours (LIFAT - EA 6300), Universite Francois Rabelais de Tours, France, from June 2012 to July 2015. His Postdoc research work at the University of Tours was on fast detection and recognition of symbols (logos) in administrative document images enabling fast document retrieval, classification, and on the problem of image quality assessment. He has been a research fellow at the Griffith School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and latterly at the Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT) on several Big Data projects. His research focuses on artificial intelligence in general and data analysis, document image analysis & recognition, pattern recognition, and biometrics. He has published more than 50 research papers in high quality international journals and conference proceedings. He has further developed a strong collaboration with many national and international laboratories/universities in Australia, India and France. He has served as a conference organizing chair, organizing committee member, and program committee member in various international conferences and workshops, including ICDAR, ICPR, ACPR, ICFHR, DAS, ICSIP, CVIP, ASAR, and PR4MCA. He is the reviewer of more than ten 'A' ranked international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, Pattern Recognition, and Pattern Recognition Letters. His research interest includes Big Data analysis, statistical data modelling, symbolic data analysis, human perception modelling, pattern recognition, image processing, document image analysis and recognition, and biometrics (Signature/Writer identification/verification).
