Ros Derrett OAM, DipT(N'cleTC), MAppSc (SCU), PhD (SCU). Ros is an Adjunct Professor in School of Law and Justice at Southern Cross University. She previously worked at SCU in the School of Tourism Management and across all campuses to enhance the University's connectivity with its regional footprint as the inaugural SCU Head of the Office of Regional Engagement which actively participated in establishing a national higher education engagement network. While a senior academic at SCU Ros collaborated with other universities (in Scotland and Thailand) with research interests in the area of regional development, cultural tourism, event management, life wide learning and community consultation. She has worked extensively in education in secondary schools, TAFE and universities, tourism, community cultural development and arts administration in Australia and overseas. Her considerable portfolio of publications in books, journals, conference papers and presentations, fiction, playwriting and media content reflect her interest in the arts, strategic planning, marketing and management of destinations through attractive products from contemporary arts practice with a particular focus on festivals and events. As an experienced consultant she has worked with individual artists, cultural enterprises, businesses and local government in regional Australia to address ideas and issues designed to deliver quality cultural tourism experiences that provide community participation opportunities, dynamic business development and placemaking. Her efforts have been recognised by a Rotary Fellowship to Scotland and an Order of Australia Medal. A dedicated career volunteer domestically and internationally (e.g. Zambia & PNG) Ros has been involved in areas of youth & community development, education, aged services, regional arts administration and economic projects. Ros has taken leadership positions in not for profit agencies that respond to community initiatives. A long-term regional resident she has been active with significant regional and national projects. Based in Lismore, her initiatives have included founding an enduring regional community theatre company, establishing a local arts alliance, efforts to stimulate local community festivals and diverse catalysts for civic revitalisation.
