Bill a geographer, archaeologist and landscape scientist, with scholarly interests in environmental change, human-landscape interaction, cultural studies and higher education. He has published extensively in all these areas, and has co-authored several books. Bill is the former Professor of Geography at Southern Cross University, and over his final decades at the university served it in various capacities, including being Chair of the Human Research Ethics and Animal Care & Ethics Committees, the University's Student Ombud, member of the University Council. He holds doctorates from the Universities of Glasgow and St Andrews, is a Life Fellow of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, a Visiting Professor at the Australian Studies Centre, University of Barcelona, and a Visiting professor in the School of Education, Glasgow University.
