Vice President (Students) and Registrar
The Office of the Vice President (Students) and Registrar leads the workgroup and also liaises with Student Associations and provides administration support to the Student Representation Committee, Chaired by the Vice President (Students) and Registrar. Student safety and wellbeing support, training and initiatives are coordinated from the Office and a Retention and Success group focus on measuring and improving the student experience through analysis of trends, student engagement and feedback gained though workshops, student representation, teaching support evaluations and qualitative forums.
Chaplaincy: The Office of the Vice President (Students) and Registrar also oversees and coordinates the community provision of Chaplaincy and spiritual support for students. The Chaplaincy advisory group has multi-faith community representation and is the key steering body to ensure every student has access to chaplaincy support regardless of faith. The Chaplaincy service helps students locate, engage and connect with their local religious community and offers a quiet, multi-faith reflection space at the main campuses to pray, meditate and ponder.
Advocacy: The Office of the Vice President (Students) and Registrar works closely with the University Student Advocacy Service. This service is not directly managed by the University, but is an important element in the mix of supports and services available to students. The Advocacy Service provides free and confidential representation, advocacy and support for students with matters concerning academic and procedural rules and regulations of the University.
The Student Outreach workgroup provides a comprehensive suite of programs for student engagement and success. There are two teams in this group:
The Student Experience, Orientation and Induction team develop and deliver a range of activities and programs that aim to maximise student engagement and retention via the provision of off-campus accommodation, sport and recreation programs, student experience initiatives and Orientation and Induction of new students.
The Learning and Engagement team provide a range of peer to peer, staff to student and self-help offerings to support a student’s learning experience. Learning coaches assist students to become self-managing and self-regulated in their learning.
Student Care and Support
The Student Care and Support workgroup provide services and support that offer expert professional care and tailored wellbeing programs to meet students’ diverse and individual needs.
The Student Equity and Inclusion team lead initiatives on-campus and online to create an inclusive University community that respects, supports and celebrates student diversity and enables better access to higher education for disadvantaged groups and individuals. Principles of student centred-ness, collaboration, empowerment, self-determination and self-regulation guide the workgroup to support students with disability to assist them to fully engage in their learning programs and reach their full potential.
The Counselling team of registered psychologists and social workers work in partnership with students to assist in identify barriers, utilising strengths and building essential skills for maintaining student mental health and emotional well-being. The Counselling service is free, confidential and provides a safe place for students to talk, be heard, and learn new strategies and skills to help manage study and life demands.
